ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

For students in Nursery and Pre-K we offer readiness programs where Reading, Language Arts, Math and Science skills are introduced and developed.

In Kindergarten through Grade 8, we adhere to the curriculum of the New York State Education Department and that of the Office of the Superintendent of School for the Diocese of Brooklyn. All grades study Religion, English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science, Technology, and Music. All grades from Kindergarten to Grade 8 have Internet access and “SMARTBOARD” technology in the classrooms.

Daily Religion Classes provide instruction based on the teachings of the Catholic Church. We want our students to develop a deeper understanding of the teachings of Jesus, to be good stewards, to be respectful and tolerant of others and provide service to those in need.

Academic Excellence

Over 85% of our students are at or above state standards. Three-fourths of our students go on to Catholic high school and 98% of the students who applied to Catholic High School were accepted to their first choice. Xavier, Xaverian, St. Saviour, Fontbonne, Bishop Kearney and St. Edmund Prep High Schools are among the top choices. Public high school acceptances include Brooklyn Tech, Leon M. Goldstein High School, Midwood High School and Edward R. Murrow High School to name a few.

Homework Policy

Homework is assigned in all grade levels. Homework is given to review and reinforce classwork. Tests and quizzes are given on a regular basis to assess student progress. Projects are also used to develop research skills and serve as an alternate means of assessment.

Report Cards are issued three times a year. These evaluations are based not just on quiz and test grades but also on projects, portfolio assessments, homework and classwork
